Song Stories: Detached

"Detached" is a song I wrote in the late 1990s, one of my earliest. It started out quite folky, and I made a demo of it at the time, which I may share one day. It was inspired by a conversation I had in the early days of the internet, not long after I had discovered ICQ and internet chatting. An American girl who was telling me about her troubled home life.

When I came to make the Seven Worlds 'Head Above Water' EP, the song transformed into an upbeat pop/rock track and seemed the perfect opener to that record.
